Whether you’re working in a cubicle or spending your days in your home office, there are some supplies you should always keep at your desk to maximize organization. Here are my picks!

Planner

The planner is my all time favorite tool. It may seem old-school to keep your schedule with pen and paper, but trust me once you have one you’ll see why it’s my number #1 pick. There is a personal satisfaction when you can literally cross things off your to-do-list. I love planners that have both monthly and weekly views, because it makes so much easier for me to plan long term as well as your day-to-day schedule.

Post-it Notes

Have you met anyone that doesn’t love post-it notes? I didn’t think so. Everyone from kids to grown-ups, from students to CEO’s have many uses for post-it-notes. My favorite use for them is for quick reminders that needs to be taken cared off as soon as I finish my task in hand. Tip, don’t overdue it. You don’t want to have your desk covered in post-its.

File Folders

There are so many cute file folders available that you may have difficulty choosing just one style. Even though we are in a digital age, I find that paper is still very used today. Specially in offices. I work from home and I have projects that require to be worked on paper. Folders keeps my projects neat together, in one place and makes it super easy for me to refer to them when needed.

Paper Clips

Binder clips, paper clips, comes in many shapes and sizes. Some even have phrases on them, which makes them, even, so more appealing. Paper clips makes it super easy for you to keep your papers together without the damage of a stapler. Perfect for those documents you want stapler-hole free. Another great use for paper clips is to mark a page or section in your planner, or as a point to refer back to when reading your favorite book.

Notepads

For me notepads are a must. I don’t only have them on my desk, I take them with me just about everywhere. They are perfect for on the spot note taking or drawing something that has inspired you in the moment. As a blogger and maker I find that notepads comes in handy for posts topics. I tend to write on paper first, then transcript it into WordPress.

Here’s a notepad tip: when I am working on something that requires my full attention and I find my mind wondering off I just grab my notepad and quickly jot it down. That way as soon as I’m finished I can go and work on it. This tip has been very helpful for me. Specially when I am feeling unproductive because I have about ten things started and don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. I take 45 minutes for each task, use the note pads for thoughts or ideas that comes to my mind to interrupt, like, “remember to call mom”, or “pay such bill”, or “that’s a great topic for another blog post”, then when I’m ready for it I go to my note pad and tackle it.
